Questions??

Thank you all for your comments on my last post -- I am grateful I still got to run that race despite the bad weather!  In thinking about a few of your comments, I thought that maybe I would do a question and answer post about running and some things I've found to be helpful.  I know that I've gained a few new readers since joining this weight loss challenge, and many of you have expressed the desire to start running or increase your distance.

Make no mistake, I am the farthest thing from a running expert.  But I love running, and I've learned quite a bit about it since I started running in November of 2009.  A few short years ago I hated the thought of running and never thought I'd be able to run past a mile.  But now I'm proud to say that I enjoy running, and I'm continually getting better at it.

So here's your chance to ask me anything you'd like to know about running, and I'll do my best to answer.  Some of you might like to know about running gadgets, or training plans... or what's up with the chocolate milk thing? ;)  Ask away!!!  I'll try to include some basic information I think would be helpful, but I'd love to know your questions.  You can post your questions as a comment to this post, or email them to me at nicolekennington@gmail.com.  I'll be back next week with some answers!

  1. Yay!
1.) I am not a runner (but want to be now), like you, never thought I could get to a mile (haven't yet, but getting close)..What do you recommend, what strategy do you recommend for newbies to get out there and get started?
2.) Any tips or excercies you do to start your run?
3.) What gadget do you use to track your distance?
4.) How do you keep your endurance up when running. I guess it probably just comes with getting into running shape?
5.) What is the chocolate milk thing? :)
I guess that will do it for now, see I am definately a newbie :) Thank you!!!!

  2. How long did you train before your first half marathon? I've been running for about two months now and run about 6 days a week. I ran FOUR miles yesterday - and ran the whole time. I'm looking into races, but don't want to overdo it!

  3. Hi Niki,
I have been checking out your blog for a few weeks now. I lead the running engage group at the campus side of church. I was wondering how you balance running with others and getting your own mileage in. Also, what is the best way to find local races in the area?

    Thanks!
